Port without losing continuity

Health-insurance portability checklist.

Prepare a switch without entering a policy number, diagnosis or document. Portability can transfer eligible continuity credits, but the new insurer still evaluates and issues the new policy.

Start ideally 60–30 days before renewal

A simple portability path

60–45 days

Compare the new policy wording

Check room limits, co-pay, deductible, exclusions, network hospitals, waiting periods and premium—not just cover.

45–30 days

Apply through the receiving insurer

State existing coverage accurately. Share documents only through the insurer’s secure official process, never on Accurate Paisa.

Before acceptance

Verify transferred credits

Confirm how many continuity months apply to PED and specified-condition waits, and whether bonus or cover changes alter them.

Before payment

Read the issued schedule and CIS

Check family members, sum insured, room eligibility, co-pay, deductible, exclusions and every optional cover.

After issue

Keep proof and cancel carefully

Preserve acknowledgement and issued documents. Do not let the old cover lapse until the new policy is confirmed.

Verify timing and continuity with IRDAI.

Portability is not automatic acceptance. Apply before renewal and confirm the credits transferred in the issued schedule.
